Studio 13 Live Learn: Central

This year studio 13 will be exploring connections between Vulnerable Individuals and Robust Groups, a Refuge and a Campus, Vibrant Making and Safe Dwelling spaces.

Our site for Design Propositions will be the former Central School of Art Building complex facing Southampton Row and Red Lion Square (Holborn). Originally developed by the London County Council under the patronage of figures such as William Richard Lethaby. The school was developed as a place for the promotion of Crafts skills and practice leading to the Vocational, Educational and Social development of working men, (and later women), in the late 19th Century. Established in 1896, the Holborn Building was opened in 1907. It closed doors in the late 20th Century when Central Saint Martins College moved to new quarters in Kings Cross.
