Tidal Studio
This is a seaside art studio where nature is the one who makes the decision, instead of humans who are used to making decisions all the time.
I aim to create an unpredictable and challenging working environment for the artist-in-residence due to the special natural condition on the seaside, in order to remind people of the power of nature, and to state that the only way is to corporate with nature instead of conquering it.

During the night, the tides come up. The working area is swallowed by sea water. The artist has to push the works up and leave the area. There’s a huge piece of glass between the working area and the living area inside of the structure.

Night Gallery
This is a night gallery in the turbine hall of Tate Modern. It only opens in the evening. It includes a “night club” and a “ghost gallery”, in order to challenge the normal rules in a gallery, to state the idea that life itself is art, and to echo the manifesto of surrealism.

When visitors pass the passageway on the bridge, their voice is collected and sent to the artist at the DJ station below. The artist then turns the voice into art pieces and they will be shown on the wall.

What also appear in the night are several foldable showrooms and two huge pieces of cloth hung from the ceiling to hold art works that can only be shown in the dark. There’s also a ghost podium where visitors are encouraged to express their opinions that will be forgotten when the sun comes up.

the shadows of the visitors from last night are cast on the floor in the day, like “ghosts”. The shape of the individual show room is illustrated by the LED lights in the ground too, to offer “a glimpse of night”.
Both shadows and light shape offer a hint for the day visitors to wonder what happened in the night, in order to vague the boundary between dream and reality, day and night, and to create the unsettling feeling that implies the existence of subconsciousness.
