This project proposes a new theatre to complement the existing theatre culture in London. The way in which I am going to connect the theatre to this culture is to use a sustainable urban water transport system. As a general principle for studio 13, this will acknowledge the importance of local power generation and low impact materials.
Project title: The New Hammersmith Contemporary Musical Theatre
Location: North bank of River Thames near Hammersmith Bridge in London.
Function: A musical theatre with interchange water transport system.
Project’s requirements: To develop a cultural/performance building with an interchange water transport system.
The red location symbol represents the new proposed river stop for the site. The sustainable transport system will use electric boats that make frequent stops along the river. To keep the boats’ batteries as lightweight and efficient as possible my proposal includes micro power generation points along the route. Using a fast charging system boats can charge at each point they stop along the river. This strategy will save energy and make the transport system service fast and reliable.
