Whilst studying MA Architectural and Urban Design, I have been exploring ideas surrounding dignity, scale, and vulnerable communities. Below are two section drawings that are part of an investigation of the impact that scale within Brighton has on homeless people. The model is a representation of New Road, North Road and East Street that only includes the possible doorways and shelters that people can sleep in. This became a tool of communication to build up an understanding of how this particular urban space is used by the homeless community. The portfolio titled ‘The Other Half of the Story’ and an accompanying essay ‘Are elderly people the forgotten users in Architectural and Urban Design?’, both explore the effects of the redevelopment of Terminus Road, Eastbourne, on the elderly and homeless communities.
