The brief was to develop 30 to 60 social housing dwellings ranging from 1 to 4 bedrooms on the Moulsecoomb library and community hall site with the aim of developing an identity for the site and the buildings that inhabit the space. The brief expresses a request to have stone, timber or brick as its main material however steel and concrete may be used for structural elements if needed.
From the brief I have chosen to design 1 bedroom units for business professionals in the new ‘working from home’ era. It became my priority to make sure that each dwelling has an easily accessible outside area and their own unique view. In order to achieve this I worked on designing a new way of viewing the common high rise flat by changing each floors orientation as you ascend forming interesting connections to other buildings on the site aiding in creating a closer community.
