The brief for our studio was to utilise a single sheet of material. This was a very open-ended brief with the focus on experimentation, not refined products.
Currently there is no large scale method of recycling or reusing inner tubes and in most cases bicycle workshops are resigned to committing them to landfill – 152 million a year in the UK alone. I decided to interrupt this waste stream and experimented with utilising punctured inner tubes.

My main experiments involved using the tubes as molds for cement and plaster. To do this successfully and created a method of piping with pressure to force out any air and fill the tubes for a more solid structure.

These images are of some of the sculptural concrete forms that I created.

I imagined how these forms could be utilised. These creased, crustacean-like, plaster forms appeared like the legs of a stool. This is not functional, just a concept.

This is a studio style image of the same stool.
